In 2010 we are pleased to announce we will be introducing a few new species to our retail sales area.
And although we are still holding our breath - I have just germinated some Microseris lanceolata - Yam Daisy or Myrnong. The root of this lovely little plant was a staple part of the aboriginal diet. The golden flowers are similar to dandelion, but the flower heads are drooped over when in bud and stand up to face the sun when they open. You often find small native wasps sleeping on the flower heads.

One of our smallest and not a common plant around Melbourne is the Acacia brownii or Heath Wattle. This small plant has a profusion of golden yellow balls along arching stems and is quite drought tolerant once established.
We have a small amount of Brunonia australis or Blue pincushion. This plant has lovely blue flowers on 30 cm stems above a rosette of spoon shaped light green furry leaves. It does prefer a little moister soil than most of our other drought resistant plants, but it is worth the effort when you see the lovely sky blue flowers in mid Spring.
Over the next few years I am hoping to introduce some native orchids to our range, please ask our sales staff next time you are in the nursery if we have any species available.
